The April 2022 students of the month for grades 7-12 at Ignite Christian Academy (ICA) are twins Alex and Alli Voorhees from Indiana. The Hoosier State 8th graders were nominated this month for reminding history teacher Becky Novack of her passion for teaching.
“Alex and Alli are twins in my 8th grade history class,” wrote Becky Novack in nominating the two for this month’s honor. “Both of them are such a light in my day because they are so engaged. It is rare for a day to go by without a note from Alex and/or Alli. Sometimes these notes are related to course questions, but often they are just a ‘hello,’ maybe a joke, or just checking in to see how my kids are or what I have planned for the weekend. These interactions remind me why I love teaching: connecting with students!”
In addition to their caring personalities, Mrs. Novack has been impressed by their dedication to their relationship with Jesus Christ as their Savior.
“Something that has stood out to me is the strength of Alex and Alli’s faith, a surrender to His will that is unique for middle schoolers,” wrote Mrs. Novack. “I have had the privilege of feeling like I really know Alex and Alli, and through virtual school, this is such a blessing!”
Our ICA Story
We have been at Ignite Christian Academy for two years. Our dad was looking for Christian homeschool options, and we found ICA on the Internet. Our family felt like God was telling us to go there, so we enrolled.
Why We Love ICA
Alli: I like that I get to listen to music while doing school.
Alex: I like that I have a flexible schedule, and if I don’t finish all my daily assignments, I can finish them the next day.
Our Favorite Subjects
Alli: I like science because I get to learn about how God made this world.
Alex: I enjoy history because I get to learn about our country’s past and how America was founded. I find the subject very interesting.
Our Family
We have no other siblings except each other (which we don’t mind at all). We like to be outside, play chess, play Wii, and train our 14-year-old Tabby cat (that has about 10 names).
Our Lives in Indiana
Alli: I enjoy going out and sitting with our neighbor’s dogs by the pond.
Alex: I like being able to hike outside and explore the woods with Alli. The woods are hilly and fun to explore.
Our Hobbies
Alli: I like to write stories, read about U.S. states, hang out with the neighborhood dogs, and take care of our chickens. (We just got a big box of 20, rowdy chickens.) We don’t own a dog, but we have sometimes up to five of the neighbor’s dogs at our house.
Alex: I like to play chess, watch old TV shows (The Waltons, The Andy Griffith Show, and John Wayne movies) with my sister, hike in the woods, and read.
Our Dream Jobs
Alli: Right now, I am focusing on following God’s will for my life. I would like to be a preschool teacher or pursue a career in nature, but it depends on where God leads me.
Alex: I would like to be a musician, but I do not know if God is showing me that. I just need to follow His will and He will lead me to the right career.
Our Goals
Alli: I hope to complete a pre-college course with good grades. It is called Level-Up (that our local community college offers). I also would like to learn how to play my grandpa’s electric guitar.
Alex: I hope to complete this semester with all A’s and B’s. I would like to learn how to play my grandpa’s electric guitar, too.
Our Words of Wisdom
Alli: Follow God’s will for your life.
Alex: God is the good shepherd who knows where our best pasture is. Don’t look for “greener grass” and stay centered on God’s “pasture.” He knows what is best for us.
