Ignite Christian Academy is proud to celebrate senior Ashton DeVos as our first high school student of the month for 2023! Ashton lives in a small town in the western part of Nebraska with his family at a Christian camp, where his dad is the director. Living at the camp provides Ashton with opportunities to meet fun people and do fun things! Ashton also recently celebrated his birthday, on Christmas!
Ashton was nominated by his teacher, Mrs. Henn who described Ashton as a student who “consistently turns in high-quality, creative work and has a kind, clear, and intelligent sense of humor. He recently submitted a well-developed proposal for a video game based on navigating American Midwestern culture that was incisive, hilarious, and sounds very fun to play.
My ICA Story
This is my fourth year at Ignite Christian Academy, and I began as a freshman in high school. My parents began homeschooling me in kindergarten. When I entered high school, my parents looked for an online, accredited school with a Christian worldview. ICA has been a great fit.
Why I love ICA
I love that it is convenient and I can do schoolwork when it fits my schedule. I was surprised by how personal the program felt, even though it is completely online. The teachers really try to get to know you on a personal level.
My Favorite Subject
My favorite subject is history because I find it fascinating. My favorite class at ICA is Digital Literacy because it is a lot of fun, and I’m interested in pursuing digital marketing in the future.
I have one brother named Hudson. We like to watch and play sports, play video games, ride minibikes, and go to youth group together.
I enjoy traveling with my family and spending time outside. I enjoy sports of all kinds and am a big Hawkeye, Vikings, and Avalanche fan! I enjoy playing basketball and skiing. I love listening to music and playing drums with our worship team at church. I also enjoy working on my YouTube channel. I have been playing drums since I was six years old, and my proudest accomplishment was playing drums for a crowd of over a thousand at an FCA Fields of Faith event.
After graduation, I plan to attend Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa. I plan to pursue a degree in Educational Ministries in their camping program with a minor in Digital Marketing.
My Dream Job
My dream job would be a program coordinator at a wilderness camp where I can work with kids and animals and use my technology skills in a ministry opportunity.
My Words of Wisdom
Take advantage of the flexibility of this program, but also apply discipline and utilize accountability so you don’t get behind.
