Our July student of the month is Grant Harris, a sophomore at Ignite Christian Academy who currently calls the Greater Milwaukee area home. After having Grant as a student in Science 9B and Biology A, Mrs. Tracy Oleson nominated Grant for his desire to learn and submit quality work. “Grant isn’t shy and is a regular visitor to my online office hours,” Oleson said. “He comes with very specific questions about the science content and the assignment expectations. He really wants to do well and turn in quality work.”
My ICA Story
I have been a student at ICA for two years starting in eighth grade. In years past, my family used some of Alpha Omega Publications’ homeschool curriculum. When my father decided he wanted his children to have an accredited high school diploma, he did a search online. He saw ICA had one of the higher ratings for a Christian online academy.
Online Learning Benefits
My favorite part of ICA is that I can make my own schedule and I can stay at home. What has surprised me the most is that the teachers are so nice. Also, it is pretty sweet that I can retake lessons, quizzes, and alternate tests.
Family Life
I have six siblings. I like swimming, watching movies based on a true story, and having Bible devotions together. I surrendered my life to God at the age of ten. I also like to play with my little brother who is two years old. I have lived in seven different states or provinces in my fifteen years of life.
Math <3
My favorite subject is math. I graduated high school math at the age of eleven. I really like math because there is always a definite answer. It is very objective.
Tickling the Ivories
I like to spend my free time by playing the piano. I played piano because all my other siblings were taking lessons, but now I really enjoy playing the piano.
Double Major Plans
My goal after high school is to have a double major in college. I would like to focus on piano and also have some kind of degree involving a lot of math. My dream job is to be a math teacher at ICA because I love math and working for ICA seems amazing.
Words of Wisdom
My advice would be that you should never give up no matter how hard the project is. Never put school aside. Also, I encourage students to do school in the summer to finish high school very early.
