The elementary student of the month of May at Ignite Christian Academy is Jeshurun E’Zion. Jeshurun is a sixth-grade student here, who has been with the academy for 3 years after his beloved parents prayerfully searched online for an accredited Christian school to enroll him and his brother during the Covid-19 pandemic in the year 2020. Their former Christian schools shut down due to health and safety reasons. Since then, they have been Homeschooling because ICA has become the best for them in all aspects- and we love having them here!
Jeshurun was nominated for this distinguished recognition from multiple teachers here at ICA! He was nominated by Mrs. Wheeler, who stated “Jeshurun is an amazing student all around. Not only does he receive top scores on his assignments, but he does so with humility and a great love of the LORD. All communications I have with him are respectful and thoughtful. He is a treasure for sure!” The sentiments were mirrored in the nomination by Mrs. McCartney who described Jeshurun as someone who “works very hard to keep his grades up and stay on pace. He not only has straight A’s, but has high A’s in all his subjects.”
What is your favorite subject and why?
My favorite subject is science because I have been fascinated by the scientific creations of our God since I was a little boy. My favorite areas of study in science are the solar system and the human body. For many years, even outside my school lessons, I have been learning on my own about these two areas of science and how God makes them work.
What is your favorite part of online learning?
My favorite part of online learning is that I can obtain knowledge through my schoolwork at home, and at my own pace without having to always dress up and rush to a school building. It is a blessing being able to get instant individualized help for my level of understanding, plus the encouragement and advice immediately from my parents and teachers without worrying about lack of proper care and attention in a regular classroom.
Is there anything you’ve encountered while studying at ICA that has surprised you?
Certainly, I am surprised at how convenient it is to study the lessons and do my assignments online at ICA. Prior to my enrollment, being in a regular school building for my education was a bit distracting to do my schoolwork, and I was somewhat concerned about online learning during the pandemic. However, at ICA, I can conveniently get help from my teachers and immediate support from my parents to dive into my lessons without worrying about the absence of individualized help in a brick-and-mortar school.
Where do you live, and what do you enjoy about living there?
I live in a suburban city in the Chicagoland area of Illinois in the United States. Chicago is hospitable and beautiful with a variety of flavorsome food and fun things to do. We are also surrounded by other beautiful cities, and I enjoy living here in suburban Calumet City because it is quiet and reserved.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I spend some of my free time reading and writing stories; and watching movies with my family. I also spend a lot of my free time playing basketball and video games.
Do you have any siblings? If so, what kinds of things do you like to do together?
I have one sibling, my beloved older brother. We always pray and read our Bibles together. We often play basketball together in our backyard because it is our favorite team sport. We also study our lessons, write fictional stories, and play video games together.
What would others be surprised to learn about you?
In my opinion, I think people would be surprised about how intelligent I am for my age because I do a lot of reading and research on my own; and I have received a lot of accolades from others who confirm to me that God has blessed me with His divine wisdom.
If you could have any job in the world, which one would you choose and why?
I would choose to be a Scientist because I have been intrigued and delighted about science all my life. As a little boy, I had watched scientific videos and I like to draw pictures of the solar system, the human body, and other plants and animals to educate and enlighten myself on how everything works and how amazing our Almighty God is, for He has created everything in our world and made all of us to function systematically.
If you could offer advice to your classmates, what would it be?
My advice to my classmates would be the advice my parents give to me every day. I encourage you, my classmates to pray always and never give up; and always ask God for help even when it seems like there is no way out. I advise you all to remain humble and keep working hard; and keep trying your best to succeed in your studies and keep earning good grades. Finally, I like to share one of my favorite Bible scriptures with you all from Proverbs 3:5-6, and it reads: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
