The April 2022 student of the month at Ignite Christian Academy (ICA) is Leah Whitson, a 6th grade student from Oklahoma. In her first year at ICA, the Sooner State native has soon made an impression on her teachers, receiving two nominations for this month’s award.
“Leah is very conscientious toward her work and communicating with her teachers,” Cindy Dean said. “She puts in extra effort when completing assignments. Leah has a positive attitude that can be felt through her work.”
Andrea McCartney, the lead elementary teacher at ICA, echoed the same sentiments.
“Leah sends me a verse of the day from Scripture each day,” said Mrs. McCartney. “Her devotion to engaging in the Scriptures with her teachers is admirable.”
My ICA Story
I just began at Ignite Christian Academy last semester. I had found out that ICA actually had interaction with other students, and I really love a social life.
Why I Love ICA
My favorite part of online learning is probably that I can interact with real-life teachers and students.
My Favorite Subject
I really enjoy Language Arts and Middle School Health. I love Language Arts because I love to write stories and poetry, and I love Middle School Health because I can learn how to keep myself and other people safe. My favorite facts I’ve learned this year are that the colors of stars are based on their heat and the sun isn’t the largest and hottest star!
My Family
I have two siblings. The youngest is my 8-year-old brother, Micah, and the middle child is my 8-year-old step-sister, Bella. I’m the oldest. Bella and I like to chase Micah, and when he gets mad, we like to hide. Sometimes we fight over a TV show because Micah’s watching Molang on Netflix, but we all get along really well. We like to play Roblox and do races together. We also love to play outside together and play with the dogs. We really love to do tons of things together.
My Life in Oklahoma
I actually don’t have that strong of a country accent even though I was born in Oklahoma. I really enjoy the crazy weather here. For example, on Monday it was 80 degrees and then yesterday it was 50 degrees! I also enjoy how Oklahoma has a lot of historical nature. My dad grew up in Washington, so he says Mount Scott looks like a hill.
My Hobbies
I like to play outside, read, play games, watch YouTube, play games inside with my siblings, do crafts, read my Bible to get close with God, and listen to music. My brother and I also do Tai-Kwon-Do.
My Dream Job
I really want to be a doctor to help people and possibly save their lives.
My Goals
I am planning to try to graduate from high school at least two years early.
My Words of Wisdom
Make sure to study before each quiz and test and always trust in the Lord with all your heart (Proverbs 3:5‑6).
