The Ignite Christian Academy high school student of the month for April is 10th grader Yohan Lee. Yohan has been at ICA for nine months, and he likes the flexibility in time and location that ICA offers. Since he can expect what he will need to finish tomorrow, next week, and even next month, he can plan and work at his own pace according to his family’s schedule. Yohan’s family chose ICA when they were making the decision to move internationally to be a part of the Japanese missionary field. God led them to search for an online homeschooling program and prayerfully they chose ICA.
Yohan was nominated for this honor by his Spanish teacher, Mrs. Zwick who stated “Yohan shows excellence in all his work. He makes appointments to ask in-depth questions to anything that he doesn’t understand. When receiving instructions, he applies what he has learned immediately. His responses both written and spoken are thorough. When asked about the culture of Cuba and how we can apply the Word of God to our the people of Cuba, he replied, “According to 1 Corinthians chapter 12, we can know that our Cuban brothers and sisters are one with us as a part of the body of Christ. So we should love and pray for them since we depend on each other as we are connected to each other in Christ.”
What is your favorite subject and why?
I really like all subjects. I especially like Spanish and Biology. There is the joy of learning a new language and using it through Spanish class and the joy of learning the details of God’s amazing design in creation through Biology class.
Is there anything you’ve encountered while studying at ICA that has surprised you?
While studying at ICA, I was surprised at the much help provided by the academy– through teachers, tutoring websites, videos, and appointments. The teachers are very kind, loving, and helpful.
Where do you live and what do you enjoy about living there?
I am currently living in South Korea. What I enjoy about living here is the delicious food, beautiful nature, convenient transportation methods, and God’s so many blessings upon this nation.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I like to spend my free time graphic designing, playing the piano, writing worship songs, taking photos, playing the guitar, and playing sports.
Do you have any siblings? If so, what kinds of things do you like to do together?
I have two siblings. A younger and older sister. We like to spend time together by playing board games, walking together, and playing badminton.
What would others be surprised to learn about you?
Others would be surprised to learn that I’ve been to 7 different schools in my life (including ICA) because of God’s plan for our family.
Of what accomplishment in life are you most proud?
To be honest, there is no accomplishment in life that I can be proud of. Rather I am thankful that God accomplishes everything good in my life. He deserves all the glory, honor, and praise!
Do you have any plans or goals after you graduate from high school?
I have only one plan and goal after I graduate from high school: to know the plan and will of God for me after I graduate from high school, and to obey instantly, joyfully, and completely with the help of the Holy Spirit.
If you could have any job in the world, which one would you choose and why?
I would want to choose the job that God wants me to have because following God’s will brings Him the most glory and honor that I could.
If you could offer advice to your classmates, what would it be?
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7). This Bible verse is so true. May the Holy Spirit make this Bible verse real to each and every person in their life just as God has made it real to me. AMEN!!!
