About Me
I was born and raised in Middle Georgia. I absolutely love living here, except it gets very hot in August! I have five kids, and we have always homeschooled. We have 2 pets. One lab named Mr. G. Feeney and one fish named Gill-bert. As a family we love to go on hikes, walks, and bike rides.
Favorite Verse
2 Corinthians 4:16-18. I encourage you to look up this verse in your Bible. This verse holds such a special place in my heart. In my life, many struggles and trials have arisen, but God has always helped me to get through them. It also reminds me that when I am going through a trial, it will end, but I will come out a better person if I trust God.
First Job
My first job was working in a video rental store. Most kids today don’t even know what that is! I worked behind the counter and people would come in, especially on the weekends and choose a VHS tape to rent for three nights. They would return the tape, and if they forgot to rewind it, I had to charge their account. It is hard to believe, but my first job is now obsolete.
Hobbies
In my spare time, I am a beekeeper. This past spring I was able to capture about 6 or 7 wild swarms. I only have about five good strong hives now, and I have moved them from my front yard to a friend’s acreage. I used to check on the bees every day, but they don’t need me as much anymore. In the winter, I will feed them sugar water to ensure they can survive the entire winter. Here in Georgia, it stays warm enough that I do not have to winterize their hives. I do not keep bees for money. I do it for the honey.
Bucket List Item
I did a semester abroad teaching in Edsbyn, Sweden, and I would love to return and see the family I stayed with. It would be great to take my children to see the places I was able to visit. I would love to go to Spain. I took 4 years of college Spanish, but I never got to go.
Favorite Place
My favorite place that I have traveled to is Westcliffe, Colorado. I spent a summer there at a small Christian camp, and it changed my life. I learned more in those seven weeks than I have in my entire life.
Person I’d Like to Meet
This may sound very odd, but if I could meet one person, alive or dead, I think I would like to meet the head of the spies that General Washington used in the American Revolution. I find the stories about those spies to be very fascinating. I never learned about them in school, and once I stumbled across their story as an adult, I couldn’t seem to get enough. It must have been a frightening life to live and then to never really be recognized for the sacrifices they made. I would love to hear the stories those spies could tell.
