The high school student of the month at Ignite Christian Academy is ninth grader Elizabeth H. She lives in Illinois, just outside of St. Louis. Elizabeth and her family engage in a lot of hiking, kayaking, and biking. She especially loves exploring the different landmarks, wildlife, and scenery in the area. Since they are surrounded by fields, the sunsets are spectacular, and often with the most vibrant colors that you can see from all directions!
Elizabeth’s is a relatively new student to ICA but has made quite the impression so far. Her teacher, Mrs. Laverne, nominated her for student of the month and said, “Elizabeth has been such a self-advocate in my class. She is consistently making appointments when she struggles and isn’t afraid to ask questions. I appreciate her determination to understand the material and understand it well! She is also flexible in her learning and willing to work with the teacher.”
What is your favorite subject and why?
I don’t have a favorite subject; however, I do enjoy reading and learning about the Bible.
What is your favorite part of online learning?
The flexibility and quick accessibility to teachers for my never-ending questions!
Where do you live and what do you enjoy about living there?
I live in Illinois, just outside of St. Louis. My family and I engage in a lot of hiking, kayaking, and biking. I especially love exploring the different landmarks, wildlife, and scenery in the area. Since we are surrounded by fields, the sunsets are spectacular, and often with the most vibrant colors that you can see from all directions!
How do you like to spend your free time?
When I have free time, I enjoy spending time with my mother and sister. We love to sing, dance, and bake together. I also have many hobbies and passions. A few of them include music, reading, drawing, sewing, crocheting, archery, and helping to raise our goldendoodle puppies.
Do you have any siblings? If so, what kinds of things do you like to do together?
I have a younger sister named Ella; she and my mom are my best friends, and we do everything together. My favorite times are when we are baking, singing, dancing, or watching movies together. Somehow, they both find a way to make whatever we are doing fun!
What would others be surprised to learn about you?
That my great-grandmother lives in Jerusalem, ISREAL. She is the CEO of a Christian Israeli based organization overseas, to help build a relationship with the Jewish people. I was blessed to meet her for the second time last fall when she visited the states. I hope to travel overseas to her home, with my family, in the next year or so.
Of what accomplishment in life are you most proud?
I am proud of myself for transitioning from private school to remote schooling, despite any challenges or uncertainty that I faced. I was also terrified of heights for the longest time, but I was able to conquer my fear when my mother took me ziplining.
Do you have any plans or goals after you graduate from high school?
I don’t know what I would like to major in yet, however, I do know that I would like to travel and attend a Christian College.
If you could offer advice to your classmates, what would it be?
If I could offer advice to my classmates, it would be to stay organized, manage your time effectively, and don’t hesitate to seek help when needed. Building a supportive network and staying proactive in your studies can really contribute to your success in school. Remember to be kind to yourself, celebrate your achievements, and stay curious. Most importantly, change your perspective about learning and recognize the lessons God teaches us in our daily lives.
