Our December student of the month is Isaiah Ramirez, a 7th grade student at Ignite Christian Academy who lives deep in the heart of Texas. Isaiah was nominated by his teachers for being extremely creative. In his free time, he enjoys reading, writing, and making movies. He also likes traveling and archeology.
My ICA Story
I have been at Ignite Christian Academy since the 2nd grade at the age of 8. When I first joined ICA, I was very shy. My teachers worked with me to bring me out of my shell. My teachers cheered my creativity on. I was able to write reports, essays, and experiments showing my personality in the written product. I truly believe that my teachers want me to excel and succeed. My teachers engage me and challenge me. To hear the horror stories from my friends who are in public school, I realize how blessed I am to be a student of ICA.
I told my wonderful elementary teacher, Mrs. Wieneke, that when I am up on that stage, accepting the award for either Best Movie or Most Compelling Story or Documentary or better yet, when I win the award for wiping out diseases such as cancer and diabetes, I will be sure to thank ICA and all of my teachers.
Conquering Fears
I am most proud of coming out of my shell. I used to be shy and a little fearful of new things, and now I am outgoing and confident. I just zip-lined for the first time after spending the first 7 years of my life afraid of heights.
Writing Sample
In a small town with a mere 300 people, there’s something everyone knows but no one talks about. There’s something everyone fears but no one has the courage to face. Eighteen-year-old Aaron, with the slick black hair, the confidence of a Wall Street banker, the courage of a soldier, and the intelligence that surpasses most adults, will chance everything to get to the bottom of the mystery that surrounds “Dark Oaks.”
“Do you hear that? It’s coming from the darkness in the woods mama,” says a cute 6-year-old girl as tears of fear well up in her mother’s eyes.
“Run, Clara, run!” yells her mother with a terror-filled voice.
Role Play Group
I am part of the role play group within the ICA Student Center. I have the best friends there. My mom often tells her friends and neighbors that we are all geniuses and that she would not be surprised if one day government officials knocked on all our parent’s doors wanting our trade secrets.
Dream Job
I would be a soldier, but in special operations, hopefully saving lives or defusing bombs. If this doesn’t pan out, I would be like one of my personal heroes, Josh Gates of Travel Channel’s Expedition Unknown.
Ministry Support
I think others would be surprised to learn that I am a supporter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA), a supporter of the Patriot Guard, and we have our own Disaster Relief Ministry.
Words of Wisdom
Don’t be afraid to be you. One thing I learned is that ICA found the best teachers in all the country and these teachers will cheer your gifts on. I also want to share that I have learned to love life. Love life and love those around you because tomorrow they may not be there. Finally, I have learned to be fearless of life’s challenges. We can’t escape the challenges, but those very struggles are what will mold our strengths. God gives His hardest battles to His strongest soldiers.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know Isaiah! Look for our next student of the month feature in January.
