Rebekah Almendares is the elementary student of the month for Ignite Christian Academy! Rebekah is a first-year student with us, and is already very active, recently winning 2nd place in our 4—6th grade spelling bee! Rebeka’s parents have always wanted the best learning for her and her family, and when they learned about ICA, they knew it was the right decision.
Our elementary school counselor, Mrs. Hosler, came to cheer on Rebeka during the spelling bee and said, “Bekah has been working so hard to slow down her pace and turn in high-quality work. She has been utilizing the academic support room, meeting with her teachers, and checking in with me regularly. She is showing so much grit and determination, and I can tell she values her learning journey! Bekah is just the type of student who shines bright with tenacity and strength.”
What is your favorite subject and why?
My favorite subject would probably be language arts; because it’s always so fun!
What is your favorite part of online learning?
My favorite part of online learning would be connecting with other students.
Is there anything you’ve encountered while studying at ICA that has surprised you?
Yes, learning about atoms and other elements was kind of a challenge for me, but I could get a lot of help from the teachers. So I could immediately get over it.
Where do you live, and what do you enjoy about living there?
I live in Houston Texas and what I love most about living here is the food, and weather. I love the cheeseburgers they have here. And the weather, you see you never know what’s coming, it could be 80 degrees today, then 40 degrees tomorrow.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Depending on how the day goes, if I’m getting good grades I usually draw, if I’m excited, then I’ll stay outside and enjoy the weather.
Do you have any siblings? If so, what kinds of things do you like to do together?
I have two sisters and one brother; my younger sister is nine and we usually play outside together. My brother is older than me, but I have fun with him anyways.
What would others be surprised to learn about you?
I play cello; I’ve been playing for about three years.
If you could have any job in the world, which one would you choose and why?
This sounds kind of weird, but I want to be a cardiologist. And to do that I have to keep my grades up and do a lot of other things. I haven’t always wanted to be a cardiologist, but I knew I wanted to be a doctor. Ignite inspired me because they taught me so much, that I knew I could learn a lot. And if I learn a lot I can eventually become a cardiologist. And yes you can look up what a cardiologist is.
If you could offer advice to your classmates, what would it be?
Get ahead on what you’re good at then spend less time on it so you can spend more time on what you have trouble with.
