The November 2020 student of the month at Ignite Christian Academy is William Gordon, a 6th grade student who lives in the shadows of the Las Vegas Range in Southern Nevada. After attending an online public school, William appreciates the Christian culture of ICA. Likewise, his teachers have appreciated his commitment and dedication to his schoolwork.
“He is diligent with his work and always seeks understanding,” wrote Mrs. Alyssa Sullivan who nominated William for this month’s honor. “He is pleasant in conversation and adds humor to his work.”
My ICA Story
I’ve been with Ignite Christian Academy for 2 1/2 years. I came here in 4th grade. My parents were looking for Christian education, and God put ICA in our path. I was excited to find out there was a Bible course in the list of my subjects because public school didn’t allow us to even talk about the Bible.
Why I Love ICA
My favorite things about online learning are that there is no chance of me being bullied or getting sick from close contacts with other students. I also know I won’t get 3 hours of add-on homework that most teachers send students home from public school.
My Favorite Subject
My favorite subject is math. I taught myself what ratios were in 4th grade, so I understand a lot of it.
My Family
I have two sisters, Samantha (4th grade, age 9) and Brooklyn (not in school yet, age 4). I like to play at a nearby park with both of my sisters, and I like to hold Brooky.
My Hobbies
I like to spend my free time reading car magazines, riding my scooter outside, playing capture the flag with my friends, or just plain sitting and thinking about designing something big.
My Special Skills
I can flip on flat ground. Right now, I’m stuck trying to master a backflip with a 540-degree spin. I’ve landed that about 3 times though. I can also play Mozart remixes on the piano with my eyes closed.
My Dream Job
I would probably want to be an exterminator. I know that it’s good exercise walking around houses for hours, and my dad is an exterminator.
My Goals
I want to get good grades and do well in the rest of my schooling.
My Words of Wisdom
Work hard and work unto the Lord! Study hard until you have just about every detail memorized, work ahead, and double up if you can.
