Is your online student feeling the crunch of year-end tests? Springtime can bring so many emotions: happiness for the end of the year, yet trepidation for the test looming at the end of the semester. Worst of all are those two largely feared words by students everywhere-cumulative final.
If your student is feeling sick to his stomach just thinking about it, try some of these relaxing stress relief tactics at home. (No, eating chocolate doesn't count.)
- Music – Nothing inspires spirits more than music. Slow rhythms are proven to slow down the heartbeat and racing thoughts. However, upbeat tunes can be relaxing to students, too.
- Breathing Exercises – Simple breathing exercises can relax nerves. Deep inhaling and exhaling can control nervousness and give students a sense of control.
- Guided Imagery – Picturing another place can help some students take their minds off worries. Others like to picture feeling good after the test is taken or tackling the test confidently. Whichever way works
- Physical Exercise – Settle butterflies by getting out and moving. Adding physical activity can be a productive outlet for pent-up emotions or concerns. Plus, it helps get into the habit of healthy living.
- Massage/Muscle Relaxation – Here's an excuse for going to the spa or at least getting a backrub from a friend. Rubbing muscles or massaging the temple can rid the body of headaches and physical tension.
- Calm Environment – Prevent extra stress. Provide a relaxing area in the house for your student to study, concentrate, and learn without distractions. During test time, reduce expectations or chore loads on your student, too!
